Former United States Vice President Kamala Harris has criticised President Donald Trump over recent military strikes on Iran, accusing him of dragging the United States into a “dangerous and unnecessary gamble” and a regime‑change war that risks American lives and regional stability.

Harris made her position known in a statement issued on Saturday and shared via 𝕏, in what observers say marks a sharp escalation in political opposition to the administration’s latest military actions.

The former Vice President, who served from 2021 to 2025, positioned herself as a leading critic of what she termed a “regime-change war” lacking the backing of the American public.

In the strongly worded statement, Harris accused Trump of pursuing a conflict without public support.

“Donald Trump is dragging the United States into a war the American people do not want,” she wrote.

“Let me be clear: I am opposed to a regime-change war in Iran, and our troops are being put in harm’s way for the sake of Trump’s war of choice.”

Her remarks come amid rising tensions in the Middle East following confirmed U.S. strikes, which have drawn mixed reactions from lawmakers and foreign policy analysts.

Harris also questioned the President’s temperament and accused him of contradicting his earlier campaign promises.

“What we are witnessing is not strength. It is recklessness dressed up as resolve,” she said.

“During the campaign, Donald Trump promised to end wars rather than start them. It was a lie.”

The former Vice President argued that the escalation undermines the non-interventionist rhetoric Trump deployed during his return to the White House.

Beyond policy disagreements, Harris raised constitutional issues regarding the authorisation of military force.

“Under the Constitution of the United States, the President must receive authorization from Congress to enter a war,” she stated.

“But even if he had, that does not change the fact this action is unwise, unjustified, and not supported by the American people.”

She called on Congress to exercise its oversight powers to prevent further escalation, stressing that the President had not secured a formal mandate before ordering the strikes.

Harris further highlighted the potential human cost of the conflict, especially as the administration acknowledged the possibility of U.S. casualties.

“Our troops deserve a Commander-in-Chief who approaches decisions on matters of war and peace with the same steadiness and discipline our troops show every day,” she added.

As of the filing of this report, the White House had yet to issue an official response to the former Vice President’s remarks, even as debate intensifies in Washington over the legality and strategic implications of the strikes.
