Operatives of the Ogun State Security Network (Amotekun) have arrested a suspect, identified as Obi Emmanuel, for illegal drug trade in Yewa North local government area of the State.

The suspect, aged 35, was apprehended in front of a chemist shop in Ayetoro at about 4:30 pm on Thursday.

According to a statement made available to DAILY POST and signed by the Director of intelligence and investigation, Shodeke Sholanke, the arrest followed a credible intelligence received by the State National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA).

Sholanke revealed that the suspect had enlisted one Alausa, a commercial driver, who was tasked with transporting the hard drugs from Abeokuta to Ayetoro.

He added that the driver of an 18-seater Mazda bus was arrested on Wednesday by the NDLEA along the Abeokuta/Ayetoro road, and on interrogation, confessed that Emmanuel was the owner of the seized items.

The statement reads, “The arrest came on the heels of credible intelligence received by the Ogun State National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), suggesting that Emmanuel was orchestrating drug deals in the region, and had enlisted the help of a commercial driver, popularly referred to as Alausa, who is currently in NDLEA custody.

“During questioning, the driver revealed that Emmanuel was the owner of the seized items, leading to the swift action of Amotekun operatives after an intelligence was equally received from the State NDLEA, which resulted in Emmanuel’s capture”.

According to the command, investigation is ongoing and the suspect has since been transferred to the NDLEA for further investigations and likely prosecution.

The command, however, called on the public to stay alert and report any suspicious activities that could threaten the well-being of the community.

While reiterating its commitment to further collaboration with operatives of NDLEA in tackling drug abuse and trafficking in and around the state, the Amotekun noted that the operation underscored the agency’s ongoing efforts to rid the society of criminal elements involved in the drug trade.
