Ange Postecoglou has been dismissed as Nottingham Forest head coach just 19 minutes after their 3-0 loss to Chelsea on Saturday, ending his turbulent 39-day spell in charge.
The Australian failed to register a single win in eight matches since replacing Nuno Espirito Santo last month, recording six defeats and two draws during a dismal run that left the club languishing near the bottom of the Premier League table.
Forest issue blunt statement on Postecoglou’s dismissal
In a curt announcement, the club stated:
“Nottingham Forest Football Club can confirm that after a series of disappointing results and performances, Ange Postecoglou has been relieved of his duties as head coach with immediate effect. The Club will make no further comment at this time.”
Owner Evangelos Marinakis reportedly made the decision quickly after the Chelsea defeat, marking one of the fastest managerial sackings in Premier League history.
Postecoglou’s struggles and unfulfilled promises
Postecoglou arrived with optimism, vowing to rebuild Forest’s identity and chase silverware, but his tenure quickly unraveled.
The former Tottenham and Celtic boss oversaw losses to Arsenal, Sunderland, Midtjylland, Newcastle, and Chelsea, alongside an early Carabao Cup exit to Swansea.
His 3-2 Europa League loss to Midtjylland made him the first Forest manager in a century to go winless in his opening six games, a streak that eventually stretched to eight.
Despite mounting pressure, Postecoglou had maintained confidence in his methods. “If you give time, the story always ends the same with me and a trophy,” he said before the Chelsea match.
Forest eye Sean Dyche or Marco Silva as successor
Early reports indicate Forest are eyeing former Everton boss Sean Dyche or Fulham manager Marco Silva as potential replacements.
Silva remains Marinakis’s preferred target, but the Portuguese coach’s £8 million release clause could complicate negotiations. Dyche, currently unattached, presents a cheaper and more immediate option.
