Anthony Joshua in a public statement has spoken on the tragic accident that took the lives of his close friends in Lagos, Nigeria.

Former two-time world heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua has spoken publicly for the first time about the horrific car accident in Nigeria that claimed the lives of two of his closest friends and long-term team members.

In a statement shared across his social media platforms on Thursday, January 8, 2026, the 36-year-old boxer reflected on the fragility of life and paid tribute to the men he called his “brothers,” Sina Ghami and Latif “Latz” Ayodele.

Joshua, who has remained largely out of the public eye since the December 29 tragedy, expressed a deep sense of shock and reverence for his fallen companions.

“Thank you for all the love and care you have shown my brothers,” Joshua wrote. “I didn’t even realise how special they are. I’ll just be walking with them and cracking jokes with them, not even knowing God kept me in the presence of great men.”

The boxer also acknowledged the immense pain facing the families of the deceased, adding: “100% it’s tough for me, but I know it’s even tougher for their parents ❤️ I have a strong mind, and I believe God knows their hearts. May God have mercy on my brothers.”
