Argentina coach, Lionel Scaloni, has expressed belief that captain Lionel Messi can reach 1000 goals in his career.
Scaloni spoke at his post-match interview after Messi led Argentina to beat Zambia 5-0 in an international friendly tie on Tuesday.
Messi was on the score sheet as the World Cup champions thrashed the African side at Estadio Alberto Jose Armando.
The Inter Miami forward recently amassed 900 career goals for both club and country, a feat only great rival Cristiano Ronaldo has managed.
“He could reach 1,000 goals. We’ll have to see how much longer he plays,” Scaloni said. “The thing is, he has to want to keep going.
“I hope he does, because he’s happy on the pitch, and we all want to see him. One year, he scored over 90 goals – he can get there.”
