A four-man armed robbery gang attacked a victim in Ilorin, the Kwara State capital, and escaped with six cartons suspected to be filled with cash.

The incident occurred around 11:00 a.m. on Friday, December 12, 2025 along Murtala Muhammed Way, directly opposite a two-storey building housing newspaper offices.

According to eyewitnesses, the masked gunmen, who were armed with AK-47 rifles, arrived in an ash-coloured Toyota Corolla with a faded number plate and reportedly trailed their target before opening fire.

They shot at the victim’s grey Toyota Sienna (registration number AA 693 GT), blowing out the two left tyres and forcing the vehicle to a halt

Three gunmen alighted and continued shooting into the air to disperse traders and passersby, while their driver remained in the car for a quick getaway.

Stray bullets hit a victim on the arm and pierced the vehicle’s windshields and body.

Witnesses said the hoodlums transferred the cartons suspected to contain money from the Sienna into their Corolla before speeding off.

The Kwara State Police Command has yet to issue an official statement on the incident.

In the chaos, Elder Stephen Oni, the Kwara State correspondent of the New Telegraph, sustained injuries while attempting to escape.

Speaking with Daily Trust, he said, “While we were trying to escape in the melee and avoid being hit by stray bullets, I didn’t know I was close to a wall. I hit my head on it as I tried to run. It was a frightening experience.”
