Wolves frustrate leaders

The visitors set up with a compact five-man defence and successfully blunted Arsenal for long periods. Clear chances were limited, and the Gunners struggled to break down a well-organised Wolves back line in a cagey contest.

Arsenal finally went ahead in the 70th minute, albeit in fortunate circumstances.

Bukayo Saka’s inswinging corner was pushed onto the post by Sam Johnstone, only to rebound off the goalkeeper’s back and into the net for an own goal.

As Arsenal attempted to manage the closing stages, Wolves grew in belief.

Their persistence paid off in the 90th minute when Mateus Mane’s cross was met by Tolu Arokodare, who powered a header home to level the score and momentarily stun the home crowd.

Just as it appeared Arsenal had dropped crucial points in the title race, late drama followed. Saka again delivered from the right, and defender Yerson Mosquera, attempting to clear under pressure, headed past his own goalkeeper in stoppage time to hand Arsenal all three points.

The win keeps Arsenal ahead of Manchester City, while Wolves remain rooted to the bottom after another costly defensive lapse.
