Arsenal striker Viktor Gyökeres has played down talk of “player power” after he and international teammate Alexander Isak secured their big moves this summer.

Both Swedish strikers joined Arsenal and Liverpool respectively following protracted negotiations.

The Sporting president had criticised Gyökeres, making it clear he would not accept “blackmail and insults” as the player pushed for a move.

On transfer deadline day, Isak signed for Liverpool after forcing his way out of Newcastle United.

Responding to a question on “player power”, Gyökeres insisted not everyone gets their way.

“I congratulated Isak for the move,” he said.

“I don’t really know the situation exactly, so it’s difficult for me to speak about that.

“When it’s a player that is not wanted in a club, I think it’s the total opposite, he doesn’t have any power, the club can literally do whatever they want.”
