Former Super Eagles winger Tjani Babangida has finally met Tijjani Reijnders, the Netherlands international named after him.

The pair met after the Netherlands’ 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier against Lithuania.

The Oranje won the encounter 4-0, with Reijnders scoring the curtain-raiser.

The midfielder’s father, Martin, named him after Babangida as a mark of love and appreciation for the former winger, who was a household name during his time with Eredivisie giants Ajax.

Babangida scored 49 goals in 175 appearances for Ajax and helped the club win the Eredivisie and two KNVB Cups.

The former winger presented his namesake with a signed copy of his autobiography, sealing what many described as a historic football connection bridging two generations.
