Former Manchester United defender, Wes Brown has suggested why Spain’s Euro 2024 star, Rodri, won’t win the Ballon d’Or this year.

Brown believes Rodri’s position could be a problem in him winning the 2024 Ballon d’Or because he is not a flair player and a goalscorer.

Speaking on Reach’s Euro Thrash podcast, Brown said (via Mirror): “Even when he came to City, he didn’t get recognized straight away. It takes a while for people to go ‘oh my god, he’s not lost’.

“It is his position, his timing, his leadership behind the scenes, there are not many you can say have been better at what he does.

“The Ballon d’Or is different, though. It is a bit more for flair players and goal scorers. But he should be up there to be nominated.”

Rodri made six appearances during the Euro 2024, scoring a goal.

The Manchester City midfielder was also awarded Player of the Tournament.
