Barcelona ready to part ways 3 first-team stars in the summer transfer window: Reports

With the summer transfer window approaching its decisive phase, FC Barcelona are reportedly preparing for significant changes to their first-team squad. According to multiple reports from Spain, the Catalan giants are ready to offload three senior players as part of a broader strategy to balance their finances and reshape the squad under manager Hansi Flick.

The decision comes in the wake of ongoing financial constraints that have been weighing heavily on the club since the COVID-19 pandemic and the fallout from years of high spending. Barcelona, despite their ambition to compete at the highest level, must continue to operate within strict La Liga salary cap rules. Selling high-earning players has therefore become a necessary step if they are to register new signings and reinforce the squad effectively.

While the names of the three players have not been officially confirmed, sources suggest that the departures will likely include at least one forward, one midfielder, and one defender. These are expected to be players who have either fallen out of favour, struggled for form, or carry wages deemed unsustainable given their current contribution to the team.

The move also reflects a shift in sporting priorities under Flick. The German tactician, who replaced Xavi Hernández earlier this year, has been clear about his intention to build a squad with a better balance between experienced leaders and emerging talents. That means giving more opportunities to young stars such as Lamine Yamal, Pau Cubarsí, and Fermín López — but it also means making tough calls on seasoned professionals.

Barcelona’s board, led by president Joan Laporta, is said to be fully supportive of this restructuring. The club’s directors believe that a leaner wage bill and a more cohesive squad will allow them to invest smartly in positions of need — particularly a defensive midfielder and a versatile full-back. Both areas have been identified as priorities if the team is to compete domestically and in Europe this season.

Another factor influencing these decisions is the increasing interest from other clubs in Barcelona’s surplus players. Several La Liga rivals, as well as teams from the Premier League and Saudi Pro League, have reportedly made initial enquiries. The Saudi market, in particular, is seen as a lucrative option for moving on older players, given the generous transfer fees and wages on offer.

Hansi Flick is understood to have held individual meetings with the players in question to explain the club’s stance. While some may see the decision as a chance for a fresh start elsewhere, others are reportedly disappointed to be leaving at a time when Barcelona appear to be on the cusp of returning to their best form. However, Flick has stressed that every decision is being made with the long-term health of the club in mind.

Barcelona fans are divided on the news. Some argue that letting go of underperforming or high-earning players is essential if the club is to avoid repeating past financial mistakes. Others fear that losing too much experience could leave the team vulnerable, especially in tight matches where veteran composure is crucial.

Regardless of where supporters stand, there is little doubt that the upcoming weeks will be pivotal. The transfer window is always unpredictable, and Barcelona must strike the right balance between generating funds and maintaining the quality needed to compete at the top level.

As the clock ticks down to the deadline, the club’s management faces the challenge of completing sales quickly enough to bring in replacements. Success in this balancing act could determine whether Barcelona enters the new season as genuine contenders for silverware — or whether the squad rebuild will require another year to fully take shape.

For now, all eyes remain on the boardroom and training ground at Ciutat Esportiva. The names of the three outgoing stars are expected to emerge soon, and with them, a clearer picture of the direction Barcelona will take in the months ahead.
