Werder Bremen manager, Horst Steffen, has again criticised Nigeria international, Victor Boniface over the striker’s lacklustre performance in their 1-1 draw against Mainz on Saturday.

The striker, who is on loan from Leverkusen, has failed to impress at the club and it was the same story in their draw against Mainz.

Steffen was openly dissatisfied with the forward’s performance.

Boniface struggled to make an impact with German sports outlet, Bild rating him 5, which reflected a subdued performance across the 90 minutes of the game.

The Super Eagles striker failed to hit any shot on target, made no assists and was only able to complete 53 percent of his passes and 28 touches.

Speaking following the game as quoted by Bild, Steffen said of Boniface, “He tried to hold onto the ball up front.

“Today I thought to myself: Come on, he can do even better.”

Boniface has only made one assist in seven league appearances for Werder this season.

Steffen had once criticised Boniface after the Nigerian failed to hit the target in their 0-3 defeat to Freiburg on matchday 4.

Steffen said the striker “was too ‘everywhere’ for me.”
