Grammy-winning rapper Cardi B has spoken out against a persistent rumour that she was introduced into the music industry as part of a plot to replace fellow rapper Nicki Minaj.
The speculation, which has followed Cardi throughout her career, resurfaced after a leaked video of rapper Ye claimed she was an “Illuminati plant” designed to dethrone Minaj.
Cardi B says success was destined
Speaking on Wednesday’s episode of the Call Her Daddy podcast, Cardi B described the rumour as baseless, insisting that her rise to fame was a result of talent and destiny.
She explained that no record label signed her with the intention of sabotaging another artist’s career.
“I was destined for this,” she said, emphasising that her path in music was self-driven and not orchestrated to target anyone. Although she avoided mentioning Minaj by name, her comments directly addressed the long-standing speculation.
Addressing rivalry perceptions
Cardi B also touched on the idea of conflict between female rappers, clarifying that differences in the industry do not always stem from hidden agendas. “Sometimes people just don’t get along with each other,” she noted, stressing that disagreements should not be interpreted as deliberate sabotage.
Her remarks sought to ease fan-driven narratives about animosity, particularly between herself and Minaj, which have often been amplified on social media.
History of feud with Nicki Minaj
The rivalry between the two rappers has been widely documented, with the most infamous incident occurring in 2018 at New York Fashion Week.
The confrontation turned physical after Cardi reportedly threw a shoe at Minaj during an altercation that drew global headlines.
Despite that clash, Cardi’s recent comments suggest she wants to shift focus from rivalry narratives to her achievements as a leading figure in hip hop.
