A yet-to-be identified female student of Seico Secondary School, Ikangba, Ijebu Ode has been confirmed dead and another severely injured, after a truck rammed into them while returning back from school.
The incident occurred on the newly rehabilitated Ikangba/Agoro road on Friday.
NEWSUNPLUG learnt that the students were returning home after finishing their West Africa Examination for Senior Secondary when the truck coming from Molipa end lost control and ram into the students coming from the opposite direction.
Giving an account of the incident, a resident in the area and chairman of Ogun State chapter of Campaign for Democratic and Workers Rights, Eko Nicholas, said the truck after running into the students crashed into the fence of a Redeemed church beside the road.
He said, “The students were obviously those writing this ongoing WASSCE because they were holding the question papers.
“One of the students, a female died on the spot while another female was also critically injured, we are all praying she make it.”
Nicholas, however, blamed the incessant accident on the failure of the government to help with road bumps or breakers that could easily help to check the reckless drivers plying the road.
He said “This is yet another needless deaths on the Ikangba/Agoro road, bringing the number of souls lost from February to six, including several ones that were injured.
“We again call on the state government to construct speed breakers and street lights to stem these avoidable and painful deaths.
Meanwhile, the Public Relations Officer of the Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Agency, Babatunde Akinbiyi, when contacted confirmed the incident saying, “one school pupil died.”

Sinovuyo Rabula appeared in the New Brighton Magistrate’s Court on Thursday, May 22, 2025, facing two counts of kidnapping.
According to the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA), Rabula is accused of pretending to suffer from abdominal pain to gain access to the hospital’s maternity ward on Tuesday, May 22.
Once inside, she allegedly posed as a new mother and took the infants without authorisation.
Both babies were found unharmed and safely recovered the following day.
Rabula was arrested and remains in custody. She is due back in court on May 30 for a formal bail application.
NPA spokesperson Luxolo Tyali confirmed the charges, stating: “The accused allegedly misled hospital staff to gain entry into the maternity section, where she unlawfully removed two newborns. A Grade ‘A’ Customary Court sitting in Mapo in Ibadan has ordered that two brothers, Usman, 20, and Toheeb Wasiu, 26, should be remanded in the correctional centre for allegedly insulting a police officer.
They pleaded not guilty to the two-count charge of conspiracy and breach of peace filed against them.
The President of the court, Mrs S.M. Akintayo, admitted each of the defendants to bail in the sum of N200,000 with two reliable sureties in like sum.
Akintayo ordered that the sureties must show evidence of three years’ tax payment to the Oyo State government and must also possess a valid identity card each.
She adjourned the case until July 2 for a hearing.
Earlier, the Prosecution Counsel, Insp Ayodele Ayeni, had informed the court that the defendants committed the crime on May 13, at about 12:30 am, at the entrance of Mapo police station, Mapo, Ibadan, Oyo State.
Shedding more light on the matter, Ayeni said that the Wasiu brothers cursed and shouted abusive words at Insp Taiwo Ige and two other personnel.
According to the prosecutor, the siblings used the abusive utterances to incite the public against the police, thus causing a breach of peace.
He noted that the offence contravened the provisions of sections 516 and 249 of the Criminal Code Cap. 38 vol. ii Law of Oyo State 2000.
A South Carolina, USA couple has been jailed after authorities discovered their 8-month-old baby living in appalling conditions surrounded by dozens of neglected animals and the rotting carcass of a goat.
Kayla Renard and Nicholas Foley were arrested Monday following a welfare check at their home in Honea Path, after the state’s Department of Social Services alerted local police to possible child endangerment and unsanitary conditions.
Inside the residence, officers were met with a disturbing scene: 47 animals, including raccoons, rabbits, dogs, cats, and chickens, were found living in filth. Animal faeces and waste covered much of the interior, and a decaying goat carcass was discovered in the bathtub.
“The amount of feces and ammonia made it extremely difficult to breathe,” said Dr. Kim Sanders, director of Anderson County PAWS, whose team helped remove the animals from the home. “There were no water bowls visible. It was absolutely disgusting and incredibly depressing for my staff and myself.”
Photos from the scene revealed multiple dogs crammed into crates stacked on top of each other. Maggots crawled in food bowls, and trash littered the floors. Some animals had clearly not been let out of their cages in days — if not weeks.
“It was one of the most horrific cases we’ve encountered in more than 30 years,” police stated.
The infant, along with the animals, was rescued from the home. Authorities confirmed that the child was in surprisingly good health despite the environment and has since been placed in the care of a relative.
“This child is OK,” said Police Chief Christopher Miller. “The child was in pretty good condition, considering the state of the home.”
The house on Shirley Avenue is expected to be declared uninhabitable.
Renard and Foley now face multiple charges, including unlawful conduct toward a child and ill treatment of animals.
