Nigeria women’s national football team have rallied around goalkeeper and assistant captain Chiamaka Nnadozie following the burial of her elder brother on Friday.

Nnadozie had announced the loss in December through an emotional message shared on her official Instagram account, drawing sympathy from teammates and fans.

In a statement issued by team captain Rasheedat Ajibade, the Super Falcons expressed solidarity with the Brighton shot-stopper and assured her of their full support.

“To our beloved teammate Chiamaka Nnadozie. We are deeply saddened by the passing of your elder brother. We pray that God grants you and your entire family the fortitude to bear this irreparable loss.

“May his soul find eternal rest, and may God’s peace be with you during this difficult time. Please know that you’re not alone in this; your Super Falcons family stand firmly beside you.

We are sending you all our love, strength and prayers as you prepare to lay him to rest. We love you, stay strong sister.”

Defender Miracle Usani represented the team at the burial ceremony, delivering a condolence message on behalf of the squad.

Focus shifts to WAFCON preparations

The Super Falcons are expected to regroup shortly as preparations intensify for the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco.

Head coach Justin Madugu has named a 25-player squad for two international friendlies against Cameroon women’s national football team as part of the build-up to the continental tournament.

Both matches will take place in Yaoundé, with the first scheduled for February 28 and the second on March 3.
