A Family Magistrate’s Court sitting at Oke-Eda, Akure on Tuesday, September 12, remanded a 36-year-old man, Daisi Alade, in Olokuta Correctional Centre, for allegedly defiling a 12-year-old girl.

The defendant is standing trial on one-count charge of child defilement.

The police prosecutor, Martins Olowofeso, informed the court that the defendant committed the offence at about 10 pm on August 27, 2023, along Mahin/Igbokoda road, Ugbonla, Ondo State.

Olowofeso said Alade lured the 12-year-old girl (name withheld), to a nearby bush and had carnal knowledge of her without her consent.

He said the girl was rescued by neighbours who heard her screaming from their apartment, but Alade had already molested her.

The charge read in part, “That you, Daisi Alade, ‘m’ on August 27, 2023, unlawfully had carnal knowledge of a girl (name withheld) aged 12 years at about 10 pm along Mahin/Igbokoda road, Ugbonla, within the jurisdiction of this Court and thereby committed an offence contrary to and punishable under Section 218 of the Criminal Code, Cap 37, Vol. 1, Laws of Ondo State of Nigeria, 2006.”

The plea of the defendant was not taken.

The prosecutor urged the court to remand Alade at Olokuta Correctional Centre pending advice from the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP).

Senior Magistrate Folasade Aduroja, ordered the remand of the defendant in the correctional centre pending the outcome of DPP’s advice.

She adjourned the case till November 14, 2023, for mention.
