A Chief Magistrate Court in Wuse Zone 2, Abuja, has sentenced Jide Josiah Jisos to six months in prison for impersonation during the 2019 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME). The ruling, delivered on October 24, 2024, by Chief Magistrate Hon. Justice Folashade Oyekan, also offered the option of a N100,000 fine.

Jisos was apprehended by officials of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) while monitoring the UTME at Brix Academy in Abuja. According to Dr. Fabian Benjamin, JAMB’s Public Communication Advisor, Jisos had presented himself as a representative of a non-governmental organization (NGO) intending to oversee the examination process.

JAMB officials grew suspicious when Jisos failed to provide satisfactory answers regarding his affiliation and role. He was subsequently handed over to security personnel for further investigation. During questioning, Jisos admitted he had no ties to any NGO and entered the exam hall with the intent of assisting his daughter in taking the UTME.
