Real Madrid have suffered a significant setback ahead of the much-anticipated El Clásico as star defender David Alaba has been officially ruled out through injury.

The 32-year-old who has been battling a persistent knee problem, has not recovered in time to face Barcelona, leaving Xabi Alonso short of defensive options for the clash. Alaba’s absence comes at a crucial time for Los Blancos, who are aiming to strengthen their position at the top of La Liga.

Alaba will be missed by Real Madrid going into the game as he has been a key figure in Madrid’s backline, bringing leadership, calmness, and tactical intelligence. His absence will not only affect Madrid’s defensive stability but also their ability to build from the back — a hallmark of Ancelotti’s system.

Real Madrid fans will now be hoping for a swift recovery for the 32-year-old, who has already missed several key fixtures this season. Meanwhile, Alonso must find a way to adapt his defensive setup as the team prepares for one of the biggest matches in world football.

When is the first leg of the El Classico 2025/26 season?

The first leg will be played on Sunday, October 26, 2025, at Santiago Bernabéu.

However, Real Madrid supporters will they can still find a way to get past Barcelona and not concede goals so they can walk away with three points and a clean sheet.
