Politician, Kenneth Okonkwo, has called on the Independent National Electoral Commission INEC to immediately declare the seat of Bayelsa state governor, Duoye Diri, vacant and then conduct a governorship election in the state within 90 days.

Recall that Gov Diri on Wednesday, October 15, announced his resignation from the PDP alongside the 23 members of the state House of Assembly.

In a post shared on his Instagram page, Okonkwo argued that the state governor after his resignation failed to immediately defect to another party of his choice. Okonwko argued that the constitution requires every government official to belong to a political party for them to occupy any office. He said the fact that the governor is currently not in any political party should be the basis of him being removed from office immediately.
