The elder sister of late Afrofuji singer Afeez Adeshina, popularly known as Destiny Boy, has spoken publicly following the controversy that trailed his death.

She reacted to the viral voice note allegedly sent to the singer by their mother before his passing, addressing the backlash, rumours and accusations circulating online.

Destiny Boy reportedly passed away at the age of 22, a development that shocked fans, colleagues and loved ones. News of his death spread rapidly across social media, with many mourning the promising artiste.

Reports claimed that the singer vomited before he died and was later buried on January 18, 2025, in Abeokuta, Ogun State. Shortly after his burial, videos showing his remains began circulating online, drawing strong reactions.

One of the viral clips showed Destiny Boy lying motionless in the back seat of a vehicle, with what appeared to be wool placed in his nostrils. The footage was said to have been recorded while he was being transported to a mortuary.

The video, alongside other unverified claims, sparked widespread speculation about the circumstances surrounding his death.

Not long after, an old voice recording of Destiny Boy’s mother resurfaced online. In the audio, she was heard speaking harshly and placing curses on him during a disagreement. This led to outrage, with some social media users accusing her of being responsible for his death and spreading rumours of ritual involvement.

Reacting to the controversy, Destiny Boy’s immediate elder sister took to TikTok via @adedayo.mistura12 to defend their mother. Speaking in Yoruba, she condemned the accusations and questioned those attacking her family.

In her words;

“Good afternoon all fans of Destiny Boy, this is the elder sister of Destiny Boy speaking to you. Destiny Boy was my immediate younger brother. I am seeing some things going viral on TikTok and Facebook, and bloggers have picked them up. Please, was it in your presence that Destiny Boy’s mother killed him? You are cursing Destiny Boy’s mother. Is it possible for a mother to kill her child?

“He and my mum had an issue, and my mother was speaking as a mother so he could listen to what she was telling him. The husband of a single mother, take it easy. Is it just anyone you can talk to anyhow? You are speaking anyhow and even saying he did money ritual. Did he do it in your presence?”

She explained that the voice note was taken out of context and insisted that her mother only spoke out of concern, as any parent would. She also criticised bloggers and social media users for spreading false stories and dragging their family during a painful period.

Her statement has since generated mixed reactions online, with many fans expressing sympathy and urging the public to respect the family’s grief.

See post below;

“My mom didn’t k*ll my brother, although they had an issue and she spoke out of anger, it’s not possible for a mother to k*ll her son”
