Detectives have arrested a 53-year-old woman, Peace Ifeoma Emeka, in Agege area of Lagos State over alleged involvement in child trafficking and recovered a two-month-old baby from her custody.

The arrest followed ongoing investigations into a reported case of abduction and child stealing.

The suspect allegedly confessed to purchasing the baby for six million naira from one Joy Chiedozie, who had earlier been arrested and arraigned before an Idanyin Magistrate Court.

The police said that the  case involving Chiedozie is pending legal advice from the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP).

The rescued infant has been taken into protective care, while further investigations are underway to unravel the circumstances surrounding the transaction and identify other possible accomplices.
