An operative of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has taken his own life at his residence in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Abuja.

The incident occurred on Monday, July 1.

Until his death, the deceased was a member of Course 5. He was described as a diligent, efficient, and unassuming operative.

The Commission is exploring possible factors including mental health and family challenges, that may have contributed to the operative’s tragic decision.

When contacted on the incident, the EFCC spokesperson, Mr. Dele Oyewale told PRNigeria that an investigation was currently underway to determine the circumstances surrounding the suicide.

The EFCC has not released the operative’s name.

The incident has sent shockwaves through the organisation.

The Commission said more details will be provided as “more pieces of information become available.”
