Former Manchester United defender, Gary Neville, has hit out at the tactics employed by Arsenal manager, Mikel Arteta, as his team lost 1-0 to Liverpool on Sunday.

Neville critized the Gunners’ choices in possession as they suffered their first defeat of the season.

Both sides struggled to create chances in open play, before Dominic Szobozslai hit a stunning free-kick to win the game.

It was a poor performance from Arteta’s men, as they were only able to muster one shot on target throughout the 90 minutes.

“Passing back has become a disease in the game,” Neville said on Sky Sports.

“Honestly, if Declan Rice or any of them had it 50-60 yards up the pitch they wouldn’t pass it into Gyokeres’ feet at the edge of the box, but they’ll do it in their own box.

“It’s incredible! It’s like they’re programmed.”
