Arsenal manager, Mikel Arteta, has claimed “it wasn’t meant to be” as they missed the chance to maintain a six-point lead at the top of the Premier League.

The Gunners were held to a 1-1 draw at Brentford on Thursday night.

Noni Madueke headed the visitors in front, but Keane Lewis-Potter levelled for the Bees.

Martinelli had a late chance to win it, but his effort was saved by goalkeeper Caoimhín Kelleher.

“We had a massive chance in the end, one-v-one for Gabriel Martinelli but it wasn’t meant to be,” Arteta said.

On the title race, he added: “We have to do our job and come to all these places like the rest of the teams.

“You have to be at your best every game and have the luck as well you need in games to conquer the three points each week.”
