Arsenal boss, Mikel Arteta has refused to blame captain Martin Odegaard after his error cost the Gunners in their Premier League 1-0 defeat to Nottingham Forest on Saturday, which handed Manchester City the league title.

Arteta watched as Arsenal lost away against Nottingham Forest following Taiwo Awoniyi’s only goal of the match.

The result means Man City have retained their Premier League title with three games to spare.

During the encounter against Forest, Odegaard gave the ball away in midfield, which allowed Morgan Gibbs-White to race through towards Arsenal’s box.

But Arteta insisted that the former Real Madrid midfielder should not be made a scapegoat for Arsenal’s latest defeat.

“We should not look for excuses or start to put the guilt on someone [Odegaard], it is about that,” Arteta said at his post-match press conference after the game.

“We should have been better as a team and in the last few weeks, we have fallen short.”
