Liverpool legend, Jamie Carragher, has once described Chelsea as a broken club following their 3-1 defeat at home to Nottingham Forest on Monday afternoon.
The ex-defender pointed to the absence of a connection between the players and the coaching staff and even the club’s fans.
Speaking on Sky Sports after the game, Carragher remarked that Chelsea did not resemble the team that triumphed over PSG in the FIFA Club World Cup final last summer.
He further stated that their performance against a significantly altered Nottingham Forest squad indicated poor spending decisions.
He said, “It’s astonishing and it originates from the top. There are five or six genuinely top players on the field today, yet they have been defeated by Nottingham Forest’s second team. Less than a year ago, they were dominating PSG.”
“There is a disconnect between the players and the coaching staff, as well as between the players and the supporters. In some respects, this is a positive sign because it illustrates that football is not solely about financial investment, acquiring players, and this constant turnover. It is about fostering unity, and currently, there is none. They appear to be a disjointed football club at this moment.”
Carragher highlighted Malo Gusto’s careless shirt tug on Taiwo Awoniyi when they were trailing 1-0, which resulted in a penalty for the visitors, encapsulating the state of the club, and stated:
“This goal epitomizes Chelsea. It’s careless, lethargic, and indicative of a lack of discipline – and this has been evident not just today but throughout the season with the red cards they’ve accumulated. Considering the team they have on the pitch compared to Nottingham Forest, they should not be trailing 2-0.”
Chelsea has now experienced six consecutive losses in the Premier League for the first time since 1993.
