Former Premier League stars, Jamie Carragher, Peter Schmeichel and Micah Richards, have disagreed over Chelsea’s chances of winning the league title this season.
Speaking to CBS Sports’ Champions League coverage, Carragher appeared to maintain his earlier belief that the Blues cannot win the title with their current goalkeeper.
And his position was backed by former Manchester City man, Richards, but Schmeichel, a former Manchester United’s goalkeeper, disagreed.
Carragher had put Schmeichel on the spot with a question about Chelsea’s Premier League title hopes as Enzo Maresca’s side struggle with their goalkeeper issues.
At the beginning of the season, Chelsea were regarded as the dark horses in the title race.
But at this point, Maresca’s side has only won two of their first six league games, taking only one point from their last two games and are seven points behind leaders, Liverpool.
Carragher believes that there will be no titles for Chelsea until they sign an upgrade on current No. 1 Robert Sanchez.
During their punditry duties at Stamford Bridge, Carragher asked Schmeichel, “Peter, you famously signed for Manchester United and were a big difference to them going on to win the Premier League.
“Do you think Chelsea can win the league with Robert Sanchez in goal?”
After a brief pause, Schmeichel responded, “Erm yes, and better defenders.”
But Carragher immediately interjected, saying: “No chance Peter, no chance!”
Richards then told Carragher: “You put him on the spot there, didn’t you? He didn’t say it with conviction did he!”
