Chelsea manager, Mauricio Pochettino could be set to lose Ian Maatsen from his squad this January transfer window.

According to The Telegraph, Borussia Dortmund are reportedly ‘confident’ of signing Maatsen this month, either permanently or on loan.

The Dutch defender came close to leaving Chelsea last summer but rejected a £31.5million move to Premier League rivals Burnley on transfer deadline day.

The 21-year-old has since struggled to secure a regular spot in Pochettino’s XI, normally featuring off the bench in the Premier League so far this season.

Dortmund have already expressed an interest in signing Maatsen this January and are in negotiations with Chelsea over a potential deal for the player.

The German Bundesliga side are optimistic the deal will get done although it is not currently decided if Maatsen will head to Dortmund on a loan deal or in a permanent transfer.
