Alex Iwobi will undergo a late fitness test ahead of Everton’s Premier League clash against Southampton at Goodison Park on Saturday.

Iwobi copped an ankle injury in Everton’s Emirates FA Cup clash against Manchester United last weekend.

The Nigeria international was initially expected to be sidelined for three weeks but he now looks set to return to action earlier than the stipulated date.

Providing an update on Iwobi’s fitness ahead of the clash against the Saints, Everton manager, Frank Lampard stated that the midfielder will be assessed before the game.

“It’s a lesser injury than what we thought. So, we’ll see in the morning if he’s (Iwobi) ready to play tomorrow.” Lampard told a press conference on Friday.

The 26-year-old has scored one goal and provided five assists in 18 league appearances for the Merseysiders this season.
