Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola has singled out forward Julian Alvarez for praise after his team’s 3-1 Premier League win over West Ham United on Saturday.

Guardiola said that the Argentina international is ‘almost undroppable’ after Manchester City came from behind to beat West Ham at the London Stadium.

The Spaniard praised Alvarez for stepping up in Kevin de Bruyne’s absence.

James Ward-Prowse put West Ham in front in the first half before Jeremy Doku equalised with his first goal for Man City since his £55.5 million move to Etihad from Rennes in the summer transfer window.

Alvarez then provided a sublime pass for Bernardo Silva, who handed Guardiola’s side the lead before Erling Haaland scored to secure all three points for the Premier League champions against David Moyes’ side.

Speaking after the game, Guardiola said at his post-match press conference: “We had doubts because he [Alvarez] came from Bolivia with jet lag. He was so tired the day before yesterday.

“He felt better, and we spoke with him last night, and he said he felt good. He is learning a lot about how to move in the pockets. He is a threat with goals and assists, the work ethic. We are delighted that the club brought him last year.

“[Ilkay] Gundo left, and unfortunately, with the injury to Kevin [De Bruyne], he has his chance and he is using it. Now he is almost undroppable.”
