Former Barcelona striker, Gary Lineker has hit out at Manchester United manager, Ruben Amorim, insisting that the Portuguese is ‘very stubborn.’

Lineker also expressed worry over Amorim’s treatment of Man United midfielder, Kobbie Mainoo this season.

The Englishman spoke following Man United’s recent Premier League derby 3-0 defeat to Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium.

Recall that Amorim opted to bring on Mainoo off the bench as three goals from Phil Foden and Erling Haaland ensured Pep Guardiola’s side defeated the Red Devils on Sunday.

However, Lineker was not pleased with Amorim’s system and his decision on Mainoo, who enjoyed a breakout season under former Man United manager Erik ten Hag’s regime during the 2023-24 campaign.

Speaking on The Rest is Football podcast, Lineker said: “I don’t think he [Amorim] is going to change his system now. He has been very stubborn so far, why change now?

“It really worries me the way Kobbie Mainoo has been kind of dismissed [by Amorim]. Such an incredible, young talent, a local boy as well doing really well.

“I thought when he came on [against Man United] he did really quite well. I don’t get it, I don’t know if there is something we don’t know about but it is slightly baffling to me.”

Mainoo is yet to start a match for Man United in the Premier League this season under Amorim.
