Manchester United legend, Paul Scholes has said it wouldn’t surprise him to see his former teammate, Michael Carrick take charge of Tottenham Hotspur when his contract as the Red Devils’ interim manager expires at the end of the season.

Carrick was recently appointed as caretaker of the Red Devils following the sacking of Ruben Amorim.

He has so far enjoyed a great start at United as he led the Old Trafford club to beat Manchester City and Arsenal, respectively, in the Premier League this month.

“It’s been perfect for him [that players coming back from AFCON], but he’s still got to do the job,” Scholes said of Carrick’s impressive start at United on the latest The Good, The Bad & The Football podcast.

“He’s come into the job now, and it has been that bad for a year that it could not really get any worse, so the pressure is not really on you while you are interim manager,” he said.

“It could be like a Tottenham manager from this [for Carrick],” Scholes added while speaking on the next club Carrick could coach next after his contract with United expires.

“It wouldn’t surprise me. ‘He’s had three years at Middlesbrough being a manager, and I don’t think he would want to do that.”
