Arsenal legend, Ian Wright has blamed Gabriel Jesus for missing their ‘only chance’ of scoring an early goal at Manchester City in their Premier League title showdown.

The Citizens had an easy night at the Etihad, brushing Mikel Arteta’s side 4-1 on Wednesday evening.

Manchester City’s goals came from the boots of Kevin de Bruyne, who broke the deadlock after just seven minutes. Erling Haaland and John Stones also scored, while Rob Holding scored a consolation for the visitors.

There were very few chances for the Gunners and Wright highlighted one moment in the first-half with the game scoreless where Jesus could have scored and potentially changed the game.

Jesus was pictured out on the left flank rather than making himself available inside the box as the centre-forward.

“What it was, it was the only way you were going to get something off them [City],” Wright told Match of the Day.

“You look where Jesus [was] and this is the only way Arsenal are going to get any sort of half chance. They did finally break through at one stage and then you look at that [no Arsenal players in the City box].

“That is where you want your striker because you are not going to get too many opportunities where you are going to be able to break into City and do that. That was five minutes in, you have to take it to put them on the back foot.”

With the victory, Manchester City have now reduced Arsenal’s lead in the title race to just two points with two extra games to play.
