Alexander Isak opened the scoring as Liverpool secured a crucial win over Crystal Palace to strengthen their hold on a UEFA Champions League qualification spot.

The victory marks a third consecutive league win for Liverpool, moving them eight points clear of sixth-placed Brighton & Hove Albion with four matches remaining.

Isak ends Anfield wait

Isak, who arrived in a British record £125m transfer, netted his first Premier League goal at Anfield since joining the club. His effort from 12 yards looped over Dean Henderson after bouncing awkwardly, giving the hosts an early advantage.

The goal provided a timely boost for the Swedish forward, who has faced criticism following a difficult run since his high-profile move from Newcastle United.

Woodman steps up amid injury crisis

With both Alisson Becker and Giorgi Mamardashvili unavailable, Freddie Woodman made his first league appearance for Liverpool and delivered a key moment.

The goalkeeper produced a vital save to deny Jean-Philippe Mateta before Andy Robertson doubled Liverpool’s lead with a composed finish following a counter-attack led by Curtis Jones.

Late drama but Reds hold firm

Palace threatened a comeback when Daniel Muñoz struck from distance, with Woodman briefly down injured. Substitute Jørgen Strand Larsen later hit the post, increasing pressure on the hosts.

However, Florian Wirtz sealed the result deep into stoppage time to ensure maximum points.

Despite the win, Liverpool suffered a setback as Mohamed Salah was forced off injured.

The forward, who has already confirmed his departure at the end of the season, could have limited appearances remaining at Anfield.

The result consolidates Liverpool’s position in the top five as they close in on Champions League qualification.
