Arsenal manager, Mikel Arteta has said his side did not have a competitive attitude as they lost 4-1 to Manchester City on Wednesday night.

The Gunners are now only two points ahead of the champions following the defeat at the Etihad.

Kevin De Bruyne and John Stones gave City the lead in the first half. De Bruyne made it 3-0, before Rob Holding pulled one back.

However, Erling Haaland sealed the win for Pep Guardiola’s men.

Arteta told BBC Sport: “You have to accept that the better team won the game. The way we started, we didn’t do the basics right, we didn’t compete in the right way.

“We have to look at ourselves in the mirror and be fair. When that team plays at that level it’s extremely difficult to stay up.

“We’ve been doing that for nine and a half months [challenging]. We’re not going to throw it away because we lost one game. We have to ift all our players. It was a shock.”
