Former Chelsea defender, Mario Melchiot has said Chelsea’s goalkeeper, Kepa Arrizabalaga has put himself in a tight corner following his comment against Lampard when the Englishman was formerly sacked at Stamford Bridge.

Melchiot is of the opinion that Kepa will now find it ‘hard’ to work under Lampard following his return as the interim manager at the club.

Frank Lampard, a former Blues midfielder and manager returned to the club after the club’s owners decided to sack Graham Potter last Sunday.

Lampard was appointed Chelsea boss in 2019 to replace Mauricio Sarri but was sacked in January 2021, paving the way for the appointment of Thomas Tuchel.

Kepa was the first-choice goalkeeper when Lampard arrived but the former Chelsea midfielder signed Edouard Mendy from Rennes to take Kepa’s place.

The Spanish goalkeeper then went on to question Lampard’s tactics after the English coach was sacked and now he is back and Melchiot feels the relationship won’t be in a perfect condition.

“You know how hard it will be for Kepa to be in the dressing room?” Melchiot told ESPN FC.

“You had a go at your coach and that coach is back and now you have to sit with him. Oh my God… I don’t know what Kepa is going to do.

“I want to give advice to any footballer: never talk about your coach in public, always do it directly. You might meet him again.”
