Liverpool manager, Arne Slot, has confirmed that the club will pay out the remainder of late striker Diogo Jota’s contract to his family.

Jota died in a car accident on July 3 alongside his brother, Andre Silva, in Northern Spain.

The 28-year-old is survvived by his wife, Rute Cardoso, and three young children.

Jota’s contract at Anfield saw him earn around £140,000 per week.

The Portugal forward had two years left on his deal, which adds up to around £14million.

“I said how proud I felt about how the fans reacted but ownership,” Slot told TNT Sports.

“Owners are mainly criticised, like managers, but the way they’ve handled this situation, by paying his wife and his children all the money from the contract [is commendable].

“Maybe people think it’s normal, but it is not in football.”
