Some names have been mentioned as possible candidates to take over as the new manager at Chelsea should the club owners decide to sack Enzo Maresca.

The hopes that Maresca would be the manager to guide the Blues to their first Premier League title in a decade may have faded away following the most recent developments.

This was after the Italian granted one extraordinary press conference at the weekend and appeared to have attacked his employers.

After the South coast club beat Everton 2-0 on Saturday, Maresca unleashed a remarkable rant during his postmatch press briefing.

He said the 48 hours in the build to the game had been the worst “since I joined the club because many people didn’t support me and the team.”

The Italian said he was not speaking about the fans but could not clarify who exactly he feels is being unsupportive.

Many English media houses believe the outburst was directed at Chelsea’s board and ownership.

Ahead of Tuesday night’s Carabao Cup quarter-final against Cardiff City, the former Leicester City boss stated that he was ‘absolutely committed’ to his job at Stamford Bridge.

Despite their successes, Chelsea are not a club where managers enjoy long tenures not even when such managers start fighting their employers.

Going by the development, Metro has named some managers the Blues owners could be targeting as possible replacement for Maresca and Strasbourg boss, Liam Rosenior is seen as the top candidate.

Strasbourg is also owned by Todd Boehly’s BlueCo and has many Chelsea players on loan at the Ligue1 side.

Rosenior, 41, is not new to  the Premier League having managed Hull City.

Also mentioned is Oliver Glasner who beat Manchester City to win the FA Cup and took Crystal Palace to fifth place in the Premier League last season.

Others mentioned are Frank Lampard, a two-time manager at Stamford Bridge who appears to have turned his career around at Coventry City and AFC Bournemouth boss, Andoni Iraola.
