Former football star, John Obi Mikel has slammed Chelsea’s new players and co-owner Todd Boehly over the Blues miserable season so far.

The former Nigeria international, however, said he hopes the coming of Frank Lampard, his former teammate, will change the story at the club.

Following Russia’s attack on Ukraine, Roman Abramovich was sanctioned and Chelsea taken away from him and sold to Todd Boehly and co last year.

The new club owners have already spent over £600m on new players but that has not translated into success on the pitch.

Chelsea, who were expected to challenge for the title with the likes of Manchester City and Arsenal are currently 11th in the Premier League table following early exits from the domestic cups.

They are in the quarter finals of the Champions League but face a tough test against Real Madrid.

The poor results have led to the sack of Graham Potter and the return of Frank Lampard now on an interim basis.

Boehly brought in Enzo Fernandez for a £106.8m deal and Mykhailo Mudryk also arrived from Shakhtar Donetsk for £88.5m.

Mikel, a legend at Stamford Bridge with 372 appearances, is unhappy with both Boehly and the club’s new players.

“I don’t think anyone can make sense of what is going on,” Mikel told Dubai Eye 103.8 Sport.

“I read articles that Todd Boehly is looking at Arsenal’s radar and whoever Arsenal is going for.

“Some players when you look at them, they’re not Chelsea players. Some of them are not good on the ball. When you look at the way the team was playing before Graham Potter got sacked, nothing was happening. There was no spark.

“With Frank Lampard coming back, he knows the club. Let’s hope we will start playing well and get some good results.”
