Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher has described the team’s 2-2 draw with Manchester United as “an opportunity lost.”

The Reds fought back from Lisandro Martinez’s goal to lead 2-1, thanks to Cody Gakpo and Mohamed Salah.

But Amad Diallo scored a late equaliser for United as they took points off Liverpool for a second consecutive season at Anfield.

The result also means Arne Slot’s men failed to extend their lead at the top of the table.

“It will feel like an opportunity lost for Liverpool,” Carragher said on Sky Sports.

“They will have seen Arsenal’s result last night and expected to come into this game and win.

“There was too much of a feeling coming into the game that Liverpool would whack Manchester United aside. People were talking about how many goals they were going to score. But it wasn’t to be.”
