Chelsea returned to winning ways with a controlled 2-0 win over Everton at Stamford Bridge, easing pressure on head coach Enzo Maresca and trimming the gap to league leaders Arsenal to five points.

The result snapped the Blues’ four-match winless run and delivered a timely boost ahead of a demanding run of fixtures.

t was the England international’s first goal in three months, his first start at Stamford Bridge since August, and his first appearance there since recovering from a broken toe.

Palmer strikes on hoe return

Cole Palmer opened the scoring in the 21st minute, finishing calmly after being released by Pedro Neto.

It was the England international’s first goal in three months, his first start at Stamford Bridge since August, and his first appearance there since recovering from a broken toe.

The goal settled Chelsea, who began to dictate possession and tempo against an Everton side offering little attacking threat.
