Former Manchester United striker, Wayne Rooney, has said Arsenal and Manchester City are now favourites to win the Premier League title this season.

Rooney was speaking on his BBC podcast after City thrashed Liverpool 3-0 on Sunday.

The result leaves the champions eight points behind leaders Arsenal.

On the other hand, City are now just four points behind the Gunners, going into the international break.

Arsenal dropped points against Sunderland, conceding a 94th minute by Brian Broberry, to draw 2-2 on Saturday.

“I think it will be difficult for Liverpool now,” Rooney said.

“I know Arsenal dropped points at the weekend but you look at their form overall and the way Man City are coming into a great run, it will be difficult for Liverpool.

“But it’s still early on the season so you never know. I just think Arsenal and Man City are the two favourites now.”
