Crystal Palace manager, Roy Hodgson has said that Newcastle United legend, Alan Shearer needs to be worried as Tottenham’s Harry Kane edges closer to breaking his Premier League goals record.

Kane, on Saturday, became Premier League’s all-time second goal scorer after overtaking Wayne Rooney’s record of 208 goals.

The England captain scored the only goal as Tottenham defeated Palace 1-0.

His goal against Palace was his 209 Premier League goals in the league. Kane is now behind Shearer, who netted 260 goals during his playing days in the Premier League.

Speaking at his post-match press conference, Hodgson, who handed Kane his England debut, said: “He always scored in my four years previously at Palace. A real talent of a goal from a transitional situation.

“He is a fine player. What he has done for this club has been enormous. Since he made his debut for England, he has gone from strength to strength.

“He’s still a young man and I am pretty certain Alan needs to be concerned because Harry will be breathing down his neck.”
