Former Manchester United man, Teddy Sheringham, has expressed disappointment over Chelsea’s decision to allow Nicolas Jackson leave the club.

He said that the west London side ‘immediately regretted’ what he described as a ‘very strange’ transfer decision the Blues made over the summer.

Chelsea spent over £300 million on bringing in new players and receiving a similar amount on sales.

The Blues brought in the likes of Joao Pedro, Alejandro Garnacho and Jorrel Hato, selling Noni Madueke, Christopher Nkunku and Nicolas Jackson, among others.

Despite this, many do not see the Blues as title contenders as Maresca’s side have slipped five points behind early leaders, Arsenal after just seven games.

Sheringham, a former England international, said that Enzo Maresca’s side already made a mistake by allowing Jackson to go to Bayern on loan.

He said that Chelsea ‘immediately regretted’ this decision.

Jackson will complete a £70m permanent move to Bayern next summer if he makes a number of appearances.

Following an injury to Liam Delap, Chelsea wanted Jackson back at Stamford Bridge but the Senegalese rejected the call.

“I thought Chelsea made a very strange decision in letting Nicolas Jackson go out on loan to Bayern Munich,” Sheringham told Coin Poker.

“Jackson had been at the club for two years; he’s got experience and his goalscoring record had been improving.

“I was very surprised to see him leave and to see him discarded in the manner that he was by Enzo Maresca.

“He was a player who knew Maresca’s system well and could’ve helped Joao Pedro to gel into the team.

“Chelsea immediately regretted their decision to let Jackson go because they tried to call him back and he said no, which I thought was fair enough.”
