Former Chelsea striker, Chris Sutton and ex-England forward, Sue Smith, have warned against ruling Aston Villa out of the title race.
The former England internationals believe that Unai Emery’s side have kept surprising their doubters with 10th straight wins now.
Villa beat Manchester United 2-1 on Sunday to keep their third place in the Premier League table, just one point behind Manchester City who are two-point behind Arsenal.
Speaking on BBC Radio 5 Live Sutton said, “I tell you what, why not Aston Villa for the Premier League title? If you’re a Villa fan, why not dream?”
Aston Villa beat Manchester United despite not being at their best against Ruben Amorim’s inconsistent side.
Smith added, “You cannot say that they’re not in a title race because they just keep doing it.
“We keep saying they’ve got a test, they’ve got another test, they’ve got another test but they just keep passing them.
“It’s absolutely outstanding for Aston Villa and yes, they are [in the title race], aren’t they?”
Arsenal’s hard fought 1-0 against Everton on Sunday means Mikel Arteta’s side will go into Christmas sitting top of the table two points better than their closest challengers.
