Manchester United legend, Gary Neville has named the three top choices for the next permanent manager at Old Trafford.
He also said one more coach is close behind them.
Former Red Devils midfielder Michael Carrick has been named interim manager for the rest of the season, taking over from caretaker manager Darren Fletcher.
Darren Fletcher was appointed after Ruben Amorim was sacked.
Carrick takes charge of the club, which is currently in seventh place in the Premier League and just three points behind the top four teams.
His job is to get the team into the Champions League, but Neville thinks that even if Carrick does that without any problems, he still would not get the permanent position.
Neville said on the Stick to Football podcast, “I hope Michael does really well. We could be sitting here at the end of the season with the fans excited, the team in fifth place in the table, back in the Champions League spots, and everyone feeling happy about it.
“But there can’t be any thinking that Michael will take the job past the end of this season, even if it’s for Michael’s sake and the club’s, even if he wins every game.”
After ruling out the interim manager, Neville mentioned the names he thinks could take over at Old Trafford, and the three main options are all currently leading national teams.
The ex United left-back believes the managers of England, Brazil, and the USA should be taken into account.
“Who can handle the media?” Neville asked. “Who can sort the dressing room out? Who can handle the owners? Which manager plays a style of football that fans will at least find enjoyable to watch?
“Who has Champions League experience? Who has big‑game experience? The three that stand out are Thomas Tuchel, Carlo Ancelotti, and Mauricio Pochettino. They might all be available after the World Cup.”
Neville also suggested another name, saying, “Eddie Howe – who has won a trophy, finished in the top four, and managed a big club like Newcastle – is another option.
“To make United a more appealing club for players, Tuchel and Ancelotti show they take things seriously.
“If you choose a younger manager, United will lose out on players. United will lose many players regardless, but someone like Ancelotti would motivate them to join.
“They need that right now because I’m not sure the players will want to join unless there’s someone they can trust.”
