Newcastle United legend Alan Shearer has named the two “advantages” Arsenal have over the likes of Manchester City and Liverpool amid the Premier League title race this season.

Arsenal are currently on top of the Premier League table, four points ahead of second-placed Bournemouth, while Man City and Liverpool sit in 5th and 7th positions.

However, Shearer believes Mikel Arteta’s side has a huge advantage over City and the Reds because of their “set-piece threat and defensive record.”

“The huge advantage Arsenal have over Liverpool, Man City, and whoever else thinks they can challenge is the defence and the set-pieces,” Shearer said on The Rest is Football podcast.

“They are in the driving seat because of their ability to just win a game even when they are not playing well.

“That is a result of the set-pieces and how good they are at the back, and that is why they have got such a clear lead at the top of the Premier League at the moment.”
