Arsenal legend, Paul Merson has said that he is ‘half-scared’ about Arsenal’s chances of winning the title after their 2-2 draw with Wolves and thinks there’s something missing in Mikel Arteta’s team.
Arsenal, who are leading the league, seemed to be on their way to an easy win over Wolves, who are at the bottom of the table.
The match started with Bukayo Saka scoring with a header just five minutes into the game.
Piero Hincapie added a second goal for the Gunners with a calm shot in the second half, and the away team looked in full control during the rainy game at Molineux.
The home team made a great comeback despite the difficulties, starting with Hugo Bueno who did something amazing by scoring a long-distance goal against David Raya, which reduced the gap in the game at the 60-minute mark.
The pressure finally paid off as Wolves’ new player, Samuel Edozie scored the equalizer in the final moment.
The draw gave Wolves just their tenth point in the whole top-flight season.
Meanwhile, the leaders missed their chance to get seven points ahead of Manchester City, who are in second place.
Arteta’s team will try to quickly regroup and get their title campaign back on track when they play away against their tough rivals, Tottenham this weekend.
Merson said on Sky Sports, “I wouldn’t want to be in Arsenal’s position if they miss out on the title again. I was really surprised by Mikel Arteta’s post-match interview. It’s the first time, really, that I’ve seen him not be mostly positive.
“Usually, he comes out and says, ‘We’ve done this, we’ve done that,’ and then he’ll say, ‘Oh, we deserved it here, they deserved it here.’ Instead of just saying, ‘We’re five points ahead, as long as we don’t lose to Manchester City, we’ll win the league.
“I was a little nervous about that interview. You can only do so much for the team, and when you’re watching, there’s something missing. I can’t quite figure it out, but there’s something missing. Something is missing, and I wouldn’t want to be in their position if they don’t win the league this year.”
“If they don’t win the league this year, I remember Patrick Vieira saying before the Manchester United game, when he was on with Roy Keane, he said it was now or never.
“I’m starting to think that too now. I was really confident that Arsenal would win the league. That’s half-scared me tonight,” he recalled.
