Aston Villa manager, Unai Emery, has insisted his team were in the game until Arsenal got their first goal, as they lost 4-1 on Tuesday night.

Emery admitted that the injury which forced Amadou Onana off during the break, allowed the Gunners to gain control of the midfield.

There was no single Arsenal shot on target in the first half, before they went four goals ahead in the second half.

Gabriel Magalhaes, Martin Zubimendi, Leandro Trossard and Gabriel Jesus all scored, before Ollie Watkins pulled one back for Villa in stoppage time.

“We did not concede a lot, no corners in the first half for them,” Emery told BBC Match of the Day.

“But in the second half, the first goal changed everything and after it they pushed it.

“And we had as well the injury of Amadou Onana and we lost everything in the middle and they have the power they showed. And we finished losing.”
