Former Arsenal player, Sol Campbell has said Enzo Maresca left Chelsea because he might have another job already planned.
He wondered why the Italian coach would leave a club that is “going in the right direction.”
Maresca left the Blues on New Year’s Day earlier this month because he had a disagreement with the club’s management team.
He won two big trophies – the FIFA Club World Cup and the UEFA Europa Conference League – while in charge of the west London team.
Chelsea have now brought in Liam Rosenior to take his place.
Speaking about Maresca’s departure, Sol Campbell told Sky Bet as quoted by Metro,
“I just think Enzo Maresca is set for another job.
“You won’t leave that position unless you have another job already lined up. What might be making him uncomfortable to leave a club like Chelsea, which has a lot of young talent and is moving in the right direction?
“He’s clearly looking for another job – or maybe another job soon.
Maresca has been connected with a possible transfer to Manchester City if Pep Guardiola leaves.
He served as the assistant manager to Pep Guardiola at City during the 2022-23 season. Guardiola’s deal with the Cityzens is set to end in 2027.
